Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary Jacky Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack Adventure Series #1)

Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary Jacky Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack Adventure Series #1) - Mary Faber was orphaned when her mother, father, and sister died during the plague in the late 1700s. For years she survived on the streets with a small gang of orphans by begging, and occasionally stealing on the streets of London. But when her best mate and leader of their little gang is murdered by the vile gravedigger, Muck, she decides she is done with life that way. Mary cuts off her hair, changes her name to Jack and secures a position as ship's boy on the HMS Dolphin.Jacky now has to live life on a ship full of over 400 men and keep up "The Deception". Trying to hide being a girl, and keeping up with the boys is quite a struggle. This was a really fun read. The way Mary talks is a little hard to follow at the beginning, but as she gets on the ship and learns it gets much easier. Jacky "Mary" is such a great character and her adventures on the ship are very entertaining. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
